Vibrations from a Cruising Altitude

Installation

masking tape, wall paper, dirt, oil, mdf, paper, flourescent lights, noise
52 sq ft

Notes about work:

This piece is a combination of experiments. One theme is patterning. Another is residue or traces. Patterned aerial landscapes and residue of human use.
The dominant features of this installation consist of:
1) The masking tape wall mural depicting an agricultural area in the Central Valley of California.
2) The parquet wood floor handmade from MDF wood. Visitors track oil from the entry way onto the floor creating their unique pattern. It also recorded their movements.
3) There is a noise generating / wave modulating device in the sink which I concealed by wrapping with paper. The speaker inside is pointed down towards the metal surface. The result is a standing wave. The perception of the wave changed depending on where you stood in the room. There were visitors who could not endure the sound.
4) I tried to install flourescent lights that flickered. My intention was to create a visual vibration for the room.
