The development of the typewriter came because historically, people have wanted to find a more efficient and quicker way to communicate. The reason for the typewriter is simply because it had no predecessor. Its closest predecessor would be simply pen and paper. Something was needed to speed up the writing process; therefore typing was made possible by the invention of the typewriter.
Although it has never been heralded as a great invention like the phone or light bulb, the typewriter had a significant cultural impact especially in the workforce during the height of its time. It took many different models and several decades for the modern typewriter to be developed, yet it proved to be a technology that served its purpose reliably well. In addition, the typewriter paved the way for the personal computer and word processing.
