Project 2
Illustrator & Vector Design
Due: 3/23
PART 1 (lastname_proj2-1)
Conceptual Considerations:
Translate your compound word from Project 1 into a combination of shape and text.
My example was “Pure Bread” and might be a bit challenging for this. I would ask myself, which word works best as a shape? Maybe bread. Here's a start. I traced a bread slice and then used the type tool and converted to "touch type". I would then want to convert to outlines and then using the direct select tool, manipulate each letter until it creates the shape of the piece of bread.
If you feel that your compound word doesn’t quite fit for this, you can instead either choose a new compound word, or illustrate an animal using the same requirements.
The Word of the Animal will be distorted and manipulated into the shape of the animal. In this way, it not only tells us but also shows us.
Technical Considerations:
- Start by creating a shape of one of your words
- Then either type your second word with the text tool, or draw your text into the previous shape described above
- If you using the text tool, convert to outline and by using the direct select tool, manipulate your font characters individually to conform to the main shape
- You can also try using a clipping mask
- You can also try combing the text and an outline of your shape in interesting ways
- Use any color of your choosing. This assignment should work simply as black & white, but you can't use color if you think it helps your design.
Part 2 (lastname_proj2-2)
Conceptual Considerations:
Create an icon or logo for your compound word. (No Text / Only Shape)
You must try and communicate your concept using only shapes. Because these are compound words, the shape must also be a combination and not two separate shapes. Find and create ways to not only convert the idea of the word into a shape, but then to bring it together into one icon.
*(this doesn’t mean that the objects need to necessarily be joined, but that the design will read as one icon)
AGAIN, you may need to change your compound word to fit this assignment (but see if you can make it work).A Logo should be:
- Simple
- Memorable
- Timeless
- Versatile
- Appropriate
Technical Requirements:
- Once you have the shape of your icon, you will then style the icon in 3 Layers with 3 different looks
- Black & White
- Color 1
- Color 2
- Saved each as a View (you will have 3 views total).
Turn in:
folder: lastname_proj2
lastname_proj2-1.ai
lastname_proj2-2 .ai
include an assets folder if you are using placed images or custom fonts
